Send/Receive Addresses

Each cryptocurrency you have in your wallet has two “addresses”. One is labeled “send” and the other is “receive”:

1. The “send” address is to send out cryptocurrency either to pay for goods or services or to transfer or give another person cryptocurrency. It would be the equivalent of making a withdrawal to your bank account. In this transaction you are giving away the cryptocurrency you have to another person or account. When people ask for your cryptocurrency address, this is not the address you readily give. Only in extreme circumstances like when you need to provide proof of payment do you need to reference this address.

2. The “receive” address is typically what people are referring to when they ask for your specific cryptocurrency address. This address is given so you may receive cryptocurrency from them. It is the “banking equivalent” of a deposit. Whenever anyone needs to send you cryptocurrency provide the “receive” address for the respective cryptocurrency they need to send you.

Never ever give out your “send” address for “confirmation” that payment was made. This is one of the oldest scams in the book. You might as well be giving your bank account number to a phisher.

Do willingly give the “receive” address to everyone that needs it or there is no way you will receive the cryptocurrency you are due. The only way people or companies can transfer cryptocurrency to you is if they have your “receive” address.

Straight “sending” and “receiving” can be done between anyone, any companies or a combination of either.
